Bali has one of the largest Russian-speaking communities in Southeast Asia — tens of thousands of long-stay residents, digital nomads and returning regulars. If you speak Russian, you're never far from your own language here: from chat groups and services to borscht at 1 AM. Here's how to plug in.

Chats and online groups

Almost everything runs through Telegram. There are large general chats for Bali — «Бали чат», «Русские на Бали» — plus niche ones for housing, scooters, buy-sell, mums, freelancers and specific areas like Canggu. Search Telegram for «Бали» and you'll find dozens; ask around and people will point you to the active ones. These groups are how most residents find apartments, sell scooters, get recommendations and organise meetups — genuinely the fastest way to solve almost any problem.

Caution, not paranoia: the big buy-sell and housing chats move fast and can be chaotic. Read the pinned rules before posting, and don't send a deposit before you've seen a place. Ordinary online hygiene applies here too.

Russian food and services

You'll find Russian and Eastern-European food across the island now — from delivery kitchens to sit-down spots. For the classics done properly — hand-made pelmeni and vareniki, borscht, syrniki, salmon — it's worth seeking out places that make it in-house rather than reheat frozen. Beyond food, the community supports a full ecosystem: Russian-speaking doctors, drivers, visa agents, photographers, hairdressers and tutors — most reachable through the same chats.

Meeting people

Beyond the chats, the community gathers around specific cafes, beach spots, sport — surfing, padel, run clubs — and evenings out. Sunset spots and late-night venues around Canggu and Batu Belig are where a lot of the socialising happens: a rooftop with a familiar menu and a view is a low-effort way to meet people when you've just arrived.
