The Best Sunset Spots in Bali

Cliffs, temples, beaches and rooftops — by type of evening
ENRU

Bali does sunset better than almost anywhere — the whole west coast faces the Indian Ocean, and because the island sits near the equator, golden hour lands reliably between 6 and 6:30 PM year-round. But "best sunset" depends entirely on the evening you want: a dramatic clifftop, a sacred temple silhouette, a feet-in-the-sand beach, or a rooftop with dinner. Here's the island sorted by type.

Clifftop drama — Uluwatu

Uluwatu Temple & the Bukit cliffsSouth peninsula

The most dramatic sunsets on the island — a clifftop temple 70 metres above the surf, with the Kecak fire dance at dusk. The Bukit's clifftop bars (Single Fin on a Sunday) turn it into a scene. Furthest from the north-west, so it's a dedicated evening, not a casual stop.

Sacred silhouette — Tanah Lot

The postcard sunset — a temple on a rock going black against an orange sky. Touristy but iconic. See our Tanah Lot guide for timing and where to eat after.

Big beach-club energy — Canggu & Seminyak

Potato Head and Sunset Park in Seminyak, La Brisa and Finns in Canggu — large, iconic, buzzy sunsets. Excellent once, but busy, pricey, and not the place for a quiet dinner. Book ahead for a front-row table on weekends.

Feet in the sand — Batu Belig & Berawa

The low-key option: a cold drink at a sand-level warung as the sun drops, half the crowd of the big clubs. This stretch is the calm middle of the coast — see our Batu Belig guide.

Sunset with dinner — rooftops

If you'd rather roll golden hour straight into a long dinner than stand on a beach, a rooftop is the move — you get the same west-facing ocean sunset with a table, a kitchen and somewhere to sit late.

Ours, so weigh it accordingly: a 5th-floor west-facing rooftop right on the Kerobokan–Seminyak border — the ocean sunset without the beach-club crush, plus a full kitchen until 2:30 AM and doors to 4 AM. Open terrace or an A/C room with the same view for rainy season, 212+ shisha flavours if you want to settle in. Built to turn a sunset into a whole evening. 4.9 on Tripadvisor.

Timing & tips

  • Golden hour is 6:00–6:30 PM year-round; crowds build from 5 PM.
  • Arrive 45–60 min early for a good spot at popular places.
  • Rainy season (Nov–Mar) can cloud the horizon — a covered/indoor backup helps.
  • The west coast (Canggu→Uluwatu) faces the sunset; east and inland don't.

Quick answers

What time is sunset in Bali?

Between 6:00 and 6:30 PM year-round — the island sits near the equator, so it barely changes by season.

Where is the best sunset in Bali?

Depends on the evening: Uluwatu for clifftop drama, Tanah Lot for the temple silhouette, the Canggu/Seminyak beach clubs for scale, and rooftops for sunset with dinner.

Which side of Bali has the sunset?

The west coast — Canggu, Berawa, Batu Belig, Seminyak and down to Uluwatu — faces the Indian Ocean. East and inland Bali don't get the ocean sunset.

Do I need to book for sunset?

For popular rooftops and beach clubs on weekends, yes — front-row tables go fast.
