One evening: Canggu → Seminyak

A two-to-three-hour coastal route: start in the surf light, walk the sand at golden hour, catch the Batu Belig sunset and end with dinner above the beach.

~4:30 PM · step 1
Start in Canggu

Begin at Berawa or Batu Bolong while the light is still high and gold. Grab a coconut, watch the surfers, let the afternoon heat come off. This is the energetic end of the coast — cafes, boards, dogs on the sand. You're not staying long; you're setting the mood before the walk south.

~5:15 PM · step 2
Walk the coast south

At lower tide you can walk the sand most of the way from Berawa toward Batu Belig and on to Petitenget. This is the quiet middle of the route, where the crowd thins and the light turns. You'll pass the beach temples; if a ceremony is underway, give it room and enjoy it. The walk is the whole point — the coast does the work, you just follow it.

~6:00 PM · step 3
Sunset at Batu Belig

Time your arrival for the sunset itself — around 6 PM year-round. This is the calm heart of the route: the same west-facing horizon as Seminyak, half the people. Watch it from the sand with a beach-warung drink, or head up to a rooftop before the light goes. This is where the evening tips from walk to night.

~7:00 PM · step 4
Dinner above the coast

Now you eat. Three honest options for ending the route, ours included.

The best evenings in Bali don't happen in one place — they move. This is the route we send friends on when they want the coast at its best: start in Canggu's surf light, walk the sand as the sun drops, and end somewhere above Batu Belig with dinner. It's a two-to-three-hour arc, mostly on foot, and it catches the one thing this stretch of coast does better than anywhere on the island — the 6 PM sunset, without the Seminyak crush.

Check the tide before you go. Low-to-mid tide keeps you on the sand the whole way. At high tide parts of the walk push you up to the road — not fatal, but the walk loses half its point.

Where to eat at the end

Cheapest and most local — grilled fish, cold drinks, feet in the sand. Perfect if you want to stay casual.

Walk five minutes south and you're in Seminyak's dining strip — polished, pricier, good for a dressed-up night.

Ours, so weigh it accordingly: a fifth-floor rooftop right where the route ends, with the sunset from above and — useful here — a full kitchen until 2:30 AM and doors open until 4. Home-made pelmeni, borscht, salmon steak, plus 212+ shisha flavours if you want to settle in. Built to be the end of a night, not a quick stop.

Practical notes

How long does the whole route take?

About two to three hours at an easy pace, most of it walking. Start around 4:30 PM to hit sunset at Batu Belig by 6.

Can I do it without walking?

Yes — Grab or Gojek between the three points works fine. But the beach walk from Berawa to Batu Belig is the best part, so keep it if you can.

What about the tide?

Low-to-mid tide lets you stay on the sand the whole way. At high tide, parts of the walk move up to the road.

Is it good for a date?

Ideal — it builds naturally from a casual beach start to a sunset dinner. The walk does the conversation for you.

What if it rains?

The walking part is off, but the route survives: go straight to the final stop. The point is to pick a last venue that has an indoor room, not only a terrace.
